Thank you to Tim Duvall for putting us onto this one.
When a family goes GF/DF (Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free) it can be abject misery to raise children. No getting out the bag of Krusteaz Pancakes from Costco, no endless bowls of cereal where the milk turns to chocolate. But a saving grace for the GF family indeed can be Donuts and Noodles off of Briargate Blvd and Union (by the Gold’s Gym).
Made with Rice Flour, and just as bad-for-you, deep-fried, these little morsels rank with Amy’s Donuts for the title of best donuts in the city. When they’re brought by the Donut Fairy to Epicentral, they’re consumed at an even more frenetic pace (because if you’re a downtown co-worker, there’s a better than average possibility GF is already a priority).
A bag of donut holes tastes no different than the standard version made famous by the box full at the local grocery store. Substitute a long john or a fritter here and the child no-long feels like the lame experiment of helicopter parents, but the warming glow of rich, sugary love and adoration, “just like a normal kid.”
This weekend, you can have your donut and your Gluten-Free, too. While they’re not entirely Dairy-Free, the number of non-milk options is the majority in the case. Enjoy.
